LEADING South African mobile operator, MTN, has agreed acquire a stake in Orascom, whose assets include Telecel Zimbabwe and Burundi.
As part of the deal, MTN will also buy into Orascom assets in Algeria, Tunisia, Central African Republic and Namibia, in addition to Burundi and Zimbabwe
“MTN will retain 49 percent in Zimbabwe, once the payment goes through to comply with POTRAZ,” a report in Zim Online, quoting a source, said.
MTN has not yet issued a statement over the developments. MTN has vast business interests spanning across the continent and the Middle East.
