Rwandan referees had to be whisked away by military police after AS Vita’s controversial 3-0 home win over Nigeria’s Enyimba in the last 16 of the Orange Confederation Cup.
According to a report appearing in New Times, referee Hudu Munyemana and his assistants Felicien Kabanda and Eric Ruhamiriza made a number of poor calls against the Nigerian side, provoking fans to throw insults at them.
The result left the Black Dolphins with a very good chance of reaching the next round. AS Vita’s goals were scored by Albert Mfongang, Ilifo Ilonga and Bongeli Lofo.
Enyimba won back to back Champions League titles in 2003 and 2004.
